What is a SMARC module?
SMARC (an acronym for “Smart Mobility ARChitecture“) defines a specification (pdf) for extremely compact and low-power Computer-on-Module (COM) solutions. SMARC modules use ARM, RISC or x86 processors, and include the CPU, memory, display, camera, networking and serial circuitry on a full-size (82x80mm) or short-size (82x50mm) board with a single 314-pin edge connector. This connector attaches to an application-specific carrier board that implements the real world I/O, such as Ethernet, display, USB, serial and digital I/O interfaces. Due to the smaller size and low energy requirements (typically less than 6W), SMARC-based solutions are ideal for mobile and battery-powered applications.
