Sync Serial Cards: 5104 vs 5102
The 5104 is our highest speed sync card. For high-speed communications, it is the perfect solution. Unfortunately, if you’re using async mode it’s not necessarily our best solution. The reason for that is that card uses Direct Memory Access (DMA), so the computer doesn’t know when characters have come in.
The 5102 on the other hand is interrupt driven. So the card knows immediately when it receives the character so it can immediately respond back to the application and say I have data.
