High-Reliability USB to Serial Supports Medical Test & Research
Overview
Biomedical Device Consultants and Laboratories (BDC Laboratories) is an industry-leader in the design and manufacturing of cardiovascular medical test equipment. They specialize in testing services, silicone vessels and test equipment for medical device manufacturers. BDC Laboratories offers custom-designed hardware and silicone vessels to simulate blood flow and their in-house capabilities include heart valve, heart catheter and blood vessel graft testing.
In early 2021, BDC Laboratories released the RWT-4600i Heart Valve Real-Time Wear System. The RWT-4600i tests the overall durability and longevity of artificial heart valves. As part of this system, they required high-reliability USB to serial interfaces.
The Sealevel Solution
BDC Laboratories shared their specific connectivity needs with the Sealevel team and we ultimately recommended two of our SeaLINK® USB to serial adapters. The 2107 and 2105R are now used in conjunction with the RWT-4600i to interface with multiple motor controllers.
The SeaLINK 2107 provides a single port USB to RS-485 asynchronous serial port and versatile interface for common RS-485 applications. A removable terminal block adapter simplifies field wiring and thumbscrews prevent accidental disconnection.
The SeaLINK 2105R is compatible with all standard PC baud rates and supports high-speed RS-232 communications up to 921.6Kbps. As with all SeaLINK devices, Sealevel’s SeaCOM USB software drivers and utilities make installation and operation easy.
