Industrial DAQ for Glass Manufacturing
Overview
A leader in sensor technology specializes in industries that utilize a furnace, specifically glass manufacturing. This solution provider contracted Sealevel for an I/O device to connect sensors and peripherals, and transfer data to a host PC. The data is then published to a cloud application for performance analysis, preventive maintenance, and historical record keeping.
For the next phase of their system, the company needed a complete DAQ solution with a wide operating temperature range, locking connectors, and a rugged, reliable design to operate in an industrial environment. The product needed to be Windows 10 compatible and have the ability to integrate with existing installations.

The Solution
Sealevel’s application engineers specified the SeaI/O-687U serial data acquisition interface, partnering with the company’s internal engineering team. The 687U has the prerequisite USB interface, eight RJ45 RS-232/RS-485 serial ports, and a VersaCOM multi-interface connector. To meet the industrial requirements, the 687U features a wide 0° to +70°C operating temperature range. A high-retention USB type B connector prevents accidental disconnection of the cable, common in environments subject to intense vibration.
SeaI/O-687U Serial Data Acquisition Device
- Utilizes high-speed UARTs with 128-byte Tx FIFOs and 384-byte Rx FIFOs
- Provides 8 RJ45 serial ports with Tx/Rx status LEDs
- Integrates transmit and receive LED indicators on each port
- VersaCom design allows RS-232 or two-wire RS-485 selection via cabling on each individual port
- High-retention USB type B connector prevents accidental disconnection of USB cable
