A global technology innovator and OEM specializes in kiosks for payments and customer-facing information solutions. From various vending applications to ticketing to user analytics to revenue management, their software and hardware products are implemented across industries. One of their primary systems relied on a single-board computer coupled with peripheral devices, connected via serial. However, the SBC they had in place began failing – regularly – due to temperature variances and they were not able to receive timely, actionable service and support from the vendor. Additionally, they sought a more fully integrated solution that would meet not only their computing needs but would also allow for serial expansion without additional hardware.

The Solution
Sealevel’s engineering and applications teams recommended the Flexio Fanless Industrial Embedded Computer with USB to 2-Port RS-232, RS-422, RS-485. This specific I/O configuration allows the customer to implement the base I/O coupled with two additional serial ports to achieve the optimal mix of connectivity with the various peripherals.
Not only does the robust I/O allow for seamless integration of a single computer with built-in connections, but the versatility has also enabled this OEM to deploy the solution across their range of kiosk offerings, streamlining installations. With the built-in Mic In/Line Out for audio, the customer is able to use the Flexio computers for user experiences with their kiosks in a more immersive presentation. Beyond the use of the device, the company and its customers have direct access to Sealevel’s applications engineers for ongoing support. And, due to product demands based on updating legacy systems and a growing network of customers, the OEM has been able to capitalize on Sealevel’s long-term availability guarantee and the reduced timeline from specification to shipment.
