Sealevel partners with a worldwide leader in medical imaging system design and manufacturing. Their solutions include mobile X-ray, radiography, and non-destructive test equipment. Historically, the company relied on small-form-factor computers from Intel®. As their existing solution was discontinued, the company sought a drop-in replacement for their computers – specifically for test applications. A primary requirement for the new computers was long-term availability as they sought to avoid costly migrations and recertifications in the future.
Additionally, their I/O expansion requirements had grown and while they had relied on a computer plus I/O solution in the past, they sought a more integrated technology path.

The Solution
As a long-time Sealevel customer, they had used SeaDAC Lite USB digital I/O modules and optically isolated hubs for expansion. Sealevel introduced the company to the complete line of Flexio Fanless Industrial Embedded Computers as a potential replacement for their embedded computing needs. They were encouraged to discover the Flexio computers offered a competitive price point to their prior solution – but with integrated I/O to reduce the necessary expansion devices.
While the primary driver was to replace a discontinued computer, the manufacturer ultimately specified the Flexio computers for updates to legacy systems and for all future builds based on long-term availability and their historical experience with Sealevel’s highly reliable I/O. Over time, the company has adopted both the Flexio computers and Sealevel’s Relio R1 Rugged computers to meet the varying needs across their medical systems. The Flexio is preferred for standard installations while the Relio R1 Rugged meets the extended temperature range required in applications that are subject to more environmental extremes.
